About Us

Nyankind is an artist-run, anti-AI brand based in New Jersey, USA.

In an era of AI generated graphics and automated customer service, we at Nyankind are dedicating ourselves to human artists and authentic customer interactions.

What does this mean?

  • All of our designs are created by real artists, using programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Clip Studio Paint.
  • We will never use AI generated product photos. You can always expect real images of our products, with Photoshop mockups for customizable print designs.
  • When you email, text, call, or chat with us, there’s a real person on the other end!
  • Each of our silly product descriptions were written by a silly person, not ChatGPT.
  • While we pride ourselves in fast turnaround times on proofs, production, and shipping, we will always prioritize the quality of our products over the automation of our pipeline.

Our owner and founder, Caity Nitahara, graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2022. Between freelance work in the indie game industry and part time cake decorating (heyy, Blue Sheep!) Nyankind as a brand was born so that she could share her art with a wider audience and become more self sufficient. But as generative AI continues to take over creative and commercial spaces, we believe it’s more important than ever to double down on our efforts to elevate artists and human creativity.

Nyankind plans to expand our offerings by partnering with independent artists to create designs across our product lines. Some of the artists we work with may have been required to use AI image generation in projects for other clients or employers, but our partner contracts forbid the use of generative AI in both the concept and execution of any imagery associated with Nyankind products.

Why No AI?

  • We want to build relationships with our customers, not take the easy way out.

What does Nyankind mean?

In Japanese, cats don’t say “meow”, they say “nyan”! Caity is half Japanese, and has always considered herself a cat-kind of person; a little bit eccentric and aloof, and endlessly curious.
